Externships are available at our mixed animal multi doctor practice. Come experience a practical well-run clinic and gain valuable knowledge. Externships are a critical aspect to your veterinary education and future career, and we are dedicated to helping you gain hands on experience in a general practice setting. Our goal is to incorporate you into our daily schedule where you will work along side our veterinarians and technicians to evaluate and triage routine, surgical and medical cases.
Our externships are flexible—they can range from two to six weeks during the year, according to your college curriculum – but are typically two or three weeks in length. Our schedule allows for a great work-life balance, and you would only be required to work Monday-Friday. We do offer Saturday hours but would not require an extern to come in on the weekend unless they so desire.
What you'll be doing:
Externs can experience the typical caseload of a small or mixed animal practice. Under the supervision of your mentor doctor you will gather histories, perform physical examinations, develop diagnostic and therapeutic plans, scrub in to surgery, assist in the management of medical cases, provide wellness care, develop your client communication skills, and polish your technical skills.
