Sugar River Animal Hospital is a three doctor small animal AAHA accredited and Cat Friendly certified practice located in Grantham, NH.

We typically host several externs a year for 2-3 weeks, but are open to whatever length works for your schedule.  

Our externships are very hands on.  We are a busy small animal general practice that sees a variety of cases.  We do surgery and dentistry three days a week and do everything from routine spays and neuters to emergency surgeries such as foreign bodies and everything in between.  We also have a boarded internist and boarded surgeon that come to the practice for echocardiograms, abdominal ultrasounds and orthopedic surgeries.

We allow our externs to scrub in and perform surgery, dentistry and run appointments while having the practice owner mentor them.  

Sugar River Animal Hospital is fully equipped with state of the art equipment.  We have two digital dental x-rays, a ligasure, full in house Idexx lab machines, a tonovet, ultrasound and digital x-ray to name just a few of our many toys.

Sugar River Animal Hospital is located in Grantham, NH, which is in the beautiful Lake Sunapee Region of tax-free NH. Within a short drive, there are several ski mountains to explore and opportunities for outdoor sports and activities with tons of lakes and trails nearby. If outdoor activities are not your thing, don’t worry! We’re only 20 minutes from Dartmouth College which has tons of cultural events. There is also a great playhouse just a short drive away in New London and King Arthur Flour’s baking school and flagship store is just 20 minutes away as well. Our hospital is only 45 minutes from Concord, two hours from Boston, and less than 2 hours from Maine. As an added bonus, Grantham itself has the third-best school district in the state.

Job Requirements

• Must be enrolled in a veterinary medicine program
• Preference given to fourth year veterinary students
• Must carry AVMA student PLIT insurance
• Housing is available if needed with practice owner
