In the northwest quadrant of San Antonio, Texas near Sea World you will find a growing, energetic, small animal practice called Great Northwest Animal Hospital. For over 43 years, Great Northwest Animal Hospital has been caring for patients and has developed a strong following. In 2016, the practice changed ownership and a new life and energy was injected into the practice allowing it to go from two doctors to six doctors in just five short years. Today, with continued growth, the need for hiring another full-time veterinary associate exists.
Great Northwest Animal Hospital is privately owned and operated allowing for full autonomy to make decisions and changes as the environment and pet owners needs dictate. It also provides the opportunity for your voice to matter and to influence the future of the practice. You will not be just another number on a payroll list.
As an associate doctor, you would be part of a group of young, enthusiastic, and highly trained associates who believe in working together as a team. No one is ever measured against each other as everyone practices and works differently.
Our healthcare team consists of over thirty support staff all working to make your day the most productive and successful it can be. Our hospital manager takes care of the financial and HR aspects of the organization while the Operations Manager and Assistant Manager handle the day-to-day duties of staff development, client interactions and daily flow.
We strive to keep a healthy work-life balance with no after-hours calls or emergencies. Our work schedules are four days a week with alternating opening and closing shifts. Two-hour midday breaks are in place for lunch and catching up. Our focus is on quality service and a positive experience for everyone involved. As such, our appointments generally vary from 30 minutes to an hour. For our newer DVMs, we believe in letting them control their appointment durations until they develop efficiency and confidence. Appointments will generally start at one hour each and gradually adjust as experience dictates. We are very experienced at mentoring new graduates and do not believe in a sink or swim style of training. We will be there every step of the way to help you grow and gain confidence. Surgeries are performed in concert with one of our practice owners until your comfort is obtained. Our latest new graduate has developed confidence in resections and anastomosis, limb amputations, cystotomies, mass removals, gastrotomies, pyometras, brachycephalic airway procedures and much more in her first two years of practice.
At Great Northwest Animal Hospital, our most valuable asset is you! The first few years of your practice career are the most important ones. The skills and knowledge you obtain during those years are the ones that will carry you through your career. We invite you to come visit with us and explore what a career at Great Northwest Animal Hospital might look like for you.
